Hugs and kisses to the WhenYouAwake blog for putting this amazing mixtape together for this loveliest of holidays, Valentines Day. If you look closely, you’ll see that even we naturalismo boys got a tune in the mix – does that mean that we’ll be able to put it to good use? Here’s to hoping.

From the gals:

In honor of the love fest that is Valentine’s Day, we bring you a very special gift. Following last year’s V-Day mixtape, we decided to continue on with our “Music For the Morning After” theme, but with a lil’ twist this time around. In addition to entries submitted by the usual players over at When You Awake, we asked some of our favorite bands and bloggers to pick a song that represents that warm feeling you get when you wake up in your lover’s arms. We are very proud and excited to offer you “Music For The Morning After 2009: A Two Volume Collection of Love Songs”. Volume One contains songs chosen by musicians like Dr Dog, Beachwood Sparks, Vetiver, Howlin’ Rain and The Bees. Volume Two features tracks chosen by our esteemed blogger friends like Aquarium Drunkard, Setting The Woods On Fire and Arthur Magazine.

From all of us here at When You Awake and the many lovely folks who contributed to this project, Happy Morning After Valentine’s Day!!

We are pleased to announce 3 very unique and intimate shows with Pegi Young Band (featuring Ben Keith, Rick Rosas, Anthony Crawford of Neil Young’s current touring band!!!) plus very special guest and support. Only 200 tickets for each show are available! Pegi Young will be performing new songs plus songs from her debut release. These will be her only performances for 2008!

“This has to be one of the most delayed debut albums in singer-songwriter history. Pegi Young wrote some of the original songs here more than thirty years ago, long before she married Neil Young. But one of the unexpected pleasures of Pegi Young (along with the sound of Neil playing electric sitar in “Love Like Water”) is hearing Pegi revisit questions and impressions from her youth — “Key to Love,” “White Line in the Sun” — in a voice etched with the deep-cut grain of adult experience. Pegi’s recent songs, such as “Fake” and “Sometimes,” are as simple and direct in their promises and worries as her husband’s, and producer Elliot Mazer sets them in a pedal-steel sparkle that inevitably echoes Neil’s Harvest.”

Ah, Green Man Festival, why do you mock me? Why do you willingly choose, year after year, to lift your sodden fingers to smear remorse on my penniless face? You know I can’t afford to fly to you (or take the time off work)!

Sigh. Yet again, the Green Man Festival of England is providing more sleepless-night fodder as Pentangle announced today that they will be headlining the yearly gathering. I’m talking original lineup here, folks: Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Jacqui McShee, Danny Thompson and Terry Cox. Yikes. Not to mention the fact that Iron & Wine, Howlin’ Rain, Alela Diane, Caribou, and dozens of others are performing too, all in the bucolic eden of South Wales.  I’ll probably be sitting in traffic while Bert Jansch is melting faces with a rendition of “The Snows.”
