Actually captures the song pretty well with its paint dripping, children wandering, cartoon conscience visuals!

Also, you should really checkout that song below from Pure Ecstasy and go out to one of his current tour dates if you can…he really seems like a new musical force to be reckoned with. Such solid melodies and great vocals. In the zone at his show yesterday at Aquarius I caught myself thinking he’s mining a different aural element of Mr. B Wilson than Panda Bear does. Of course that’s oversimplifying as Pure Ecstasy seems to draw upon many influences, but it’s still great to hear someone changing it up a bit.

March 19, 2004

These sessions were recorded at KVRX in Austin, Texas.  I came across them while digging through CD’s at the radio station. There are no photographs from the Six Organs or Animal Collective sessions.

Six Organs of Admittance, 11 May 2004

This one was recorded around the time of For Octavio Paz and Untitled CDR. It’s just Ben Chasny and steel string guitar. Need I say more?

  1. Thousand Birds
  2. Journey through Sankuan Pass
  3. Black Needle Rhymes
  4. Drinking with Jack
  5. Birds and Sun and Clay
  6. The Manifestation
  7. Somewhere Between
  8. Hlao-Roo
  9. Khidr and the Fountain
  10. Lisbon

Devendra Banhart, 19 March 2004

Devendra’s set was recorded in between the release of Black Babies and Rejoicing in the Hands. The tracks hearken back to the era of Golden Apples of the Sun, and include two well placed covers along with some entertaining banter.

  1. Onward the Indian
  2. Michigan State
  3. This Beard Is for Siobhán
  4. Little Monkey
  5. It’s a Sight to Behold
  6. Marigold
  7. Soon is Good
  8. Todo los Dolores
  9. Colorado Girl
  10. The Body Breaks
  11. Maybe I Should Have a Glass of Water
  12. Green Rocky Road

Avey Tare & Panda Bear, 11 July 2003

Avey Tare and Panda Bear played this set on acoustic guitars. The sound is filled out slightly by some recorded sounds and features vocal harmonies that wander into an a cappella bit at the end.

  1. Pilot (Through Crash)
  2. You’ll Be Alright
  3. College

A new website has been put up for what seems to be an announcement for a new Animal Collective album titled Merriweather Post Pavilion due sometime in January. I suppose it’s rather sad that the polarized animatronic fish video looping on the website at the moment gave me more than a moment of excitement. Maybe I can finally give their Midi performance videos of them performing the new material on youtube a break.

Not many details yet, but you can check out the cryptic update here:

and watch some of their new material peformed here

Video Naturalismo:

Here’s a menagerie of videos i’ve been cycling through on a regular rotation over the past few weeks. The first two are from the serendipitous La Blogotheque and the third was inspired by the ingenious madness over at WFMU’s Bewware of the Blog.

Is it presumptuous to think that everything Animal Collective sets their collective minds to is gold? This video from late April of them performing ‘Taste’ doesn’t do anything to dissuade the thought.

This is nothing short of epic, it’s everything a hippie drum circle is not.

This is more of a tease to get you to go over to WFMU and watch the bottom left video of Dutch psych rock band Gasolin’ performing an unreleased song in the late 60’s. The other videos in the round up of “Trees, Grass and Stones” are great as well.

I’m feeling very visually inclined this week and Sigur Rós beautiful new video for their song Gobbledigook feels like the perfect way to start summer. The song is accompanied by the stunning visuals of the previously mentioned Ryan McGinley, who I think has done an amazing job at reviving the (sadly) now nostalgic concept of insouciant nudity once again- breathing in a playful life to the natural inclinations of the human body. It’s refreshing to see the post-modern constructs of nudity either being taboo or an over-exposed blase’ canvas not enough to shock or enthrall being broken down. Such is life in America in the latter half of the first decade of the 2000’s I suppose. The song itself recalls Animal Collective’s (in my opinion) most ambitious and strongest album to date Sung Tongs.

If you’re in the San Francisco area Ryan McGinley’s “I know where summer goes” is now open at Ratio 3, here’s a map of how to get there. It is FREE admission and runs until June 21. Wed-Saturday from 11am-6pm.
