Almost 5 years ago to the day Guy Blakeslee was playing this set as one of his first under his new Entrance moniker. It’s a killer set with some great covers and originals alike. Listen to those vocals and guitar, I can’t help but feel that he doesn’t simply play the blues but is entirely feeling them as well.

The Entrance Band have just posted 2 new songs on their myspace, which you can download below. The first song, MLK Jr., was recorded live at McCabes late last year. The last time I heard it live a few months ago it was the highlight of the show for me. The next new song, LOokOUT (recorded live in Big Sur) was also a favourite of mine from the set and really exemplifies what I can imagine the upcoming album will sound like. Guy Blakeslee’s vocals and psychedelic guitar are tighter than ever before and I really cannot recommend these enough. If you’re in southern California right now you can catch The Entrance Band at one of the following shows (w/ the always talented Astra and J. Emery Blatchley):

Paz Lenchantin is the thundering bassist behind The Entrance Band’s soulful and psychedelic sound. While taking a break from recording with Entrance’s Guy Blakeslee, she has recorded with Brightblack Morning Light on the track ‘Everybody Daylight’ and more recently finished her second solo record Songs for Luci. The somewhat quiet release of her solo record is due to its small hand made only release available solely on her myspace page. The soaring and beautiful folk melodies on Songs for Luci contain some of the best female vocals I have heard from the collective folk movement. Unfairly looked over due to the small scale personal release, I can’t recommend enough heading over to her website and ordering your handmade copy now. They are only available for a few more weeks until early March before production ceases, so go get yours now!And if you need some more convincing, have a look at the angelic and alluring music video for Songs for Luci’s Kentucky Hymn

Ah, lest not forget the other integral influences and styles of the Naturalismo. It’s been too long since I’ve addressed a psychedelic band. Entrance plays a blend of psychedelia and blues that owes as much to Hendrix as it does to T.rex but what they give back not only lives up to their influences but makes you wonder if they pose them a threat. I’ve been waiting for an excuse to mention the band Entrance for a short-while after I missed their opening set for Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks back in January and have been embittered ever since. Entrance’s album “Prayer of Death” came out in July of 2006, but with no label backing was limited to a self-pressed CD run of 1000. With favorable press and help from a friend Entrance was able to release “Prayer of Death” worldwide in late November of 2006. Recently, Entrance, who fronts “Entrance(the band)” real name Guy Blakeslee posted 2 unreleased songs that weren’t featured on their newest album.
“Grim Reaper Blues pt.2” Plays like Helter Skelter in reverse, only with the “Look Out” yell serving as the soft introduction to the eventual climax that sends the song splintering into electric chaos.
